San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall was shot on Saturday by a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly attempting to steal his Rolex watch while he was en route to a signing event.
The football team said in a statement that he was released from the hospital on Sunday after being shot in the chest.
“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the team said.
Police said that the suspect, who was not named because he was a minor, tried to rob Pearsall at gun point at which point Pearsall tried to fight back and get control of the weapon. During the course of the struggle for the gun, both individuals were shot by the same weapon.
