Speaking to reporters at the White House after announcing a major investment deal with microchip manufacturer TSMC, President Donald Trump was asked what he needed to see from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in order to restart negotiations on the rare earth minerals deal that was supposed to be signed last Friday. After answering that Zelensky “should be more appreciative,” Trump went into more detail about what he was trying to accomplish with the deal: to stop the killing on both sides, to provide a bit of security for Ukraine through having American interests on the ground, and to have a more equitable financial deal for the United States.
