Antisemitism has historically permeated various facets of society, but its manifestation within trade unions – organizations theoretically dedicated to workers’ rights and social justice – offers particularly important insights in our post-October 7th reality. While American labor unions have recently emerged as a new frontier for anti-Israel activism and antisemitism, British trade unions have long served as a primary arena for delegitimizing Israel and fostering antisemitic sentiments. The British experience provides a crucial case study for understanding the current challenges facing American Jewish communities. At the same time, several unique elements in America make it even more dangerous to American educational institutions and to democracy as a whole.
