Red States Prep for Broader Education Role After Trump’s Directive

While the text of President Donald Trump’s Thursday executive order dismantling the Department of Education has little in the way of specific guidance for states, some Republican state officials are eager to centralize education authority locally.

Trump signed an executive order Thursday afternoon authorizing Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to begin closing the Department of Education, while continuing to ensure Americans receive the education services, programs, and benefits on which they rely.
