‘Make DJ Gay Again’: Country Star Takes Time Out From Feud With Brittany Aldean To Attack Candace Cameron Bure

Country music star Maren Morris joined the pile-on of woke celebrities attacking actress Candace Cameron Bure for saying that she planned to keep making movies that reflected her Christian faith and kept traditional marriage at the forefront.

Morris recently squared off with fellow country musician Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany — calling her a “scumbag human” and “insurrection Barbie” over a social media post that Morris deemed “transphobic.” She lashed out at Bure in an Instagram comment, referencing the actress’ “Full House” character and saying, “Make DJ [Tanner] gay again.”

The country singer shared her thoughts in response to a post from Instagram influencer and self-described “queer Jew fairy in stiletto nails” Matt Bernstein.

The first slide of Bernstein’s post — which detailed Bure’s decision to leave The Hallmark Channel and take on a role at the Great American Family network — read, “You went decades without ever having to see an LGBTQ character on screen. Now, we’re in 1 out of 5 movies. Sorry if this disturbs you. Sending thoughts and prayers.”

Bure defended her decision and responded on Wednesday to the outpouring of hate coming from celebrities like “The Walking Dead” star Jeffrey Dean Morgan and his wife, “One Tree Hill” alumna Hilarie Burton Morgan — who claimed several years earlier that she severed ties with Hallmark over the network’s refusal to meet her inclusivity demands.

“All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people. It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone,” Bure said in a lengthy statement. “It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever.”

The actress went on to say that, as a Christian, she felt called to love all people — even in the face of the hatred that was being directed at her and everything she valued.

“To the members of the media responsible for using this opportunity to fan flames of conflict and hate, I have a simple message: I love you anyway,” Bure continued. “To those who hate what I value and who are attacking me online: I love you. To those who have tried to assassinate my character: I love you. To everyone reading this, of any race, creed, sexuality, or political party, including those who have tried to bully me with name-calling, I love you.”

Bure concluded by saying that Christmas was the manifestation of God’s love on Earth — and that was the reason she felt so drawn to telling Christmas stories in her work. “And in the sole motivation of pure love, I hope you’ll join me in sharing God’s hope for all the world this Christmas season. Call that my Christmas wish,” she said.
