As Pennsylvania Democrat Senator John Fetterman has established himself as a staunch supporter of the state of Israel, Democrats who once championed him and dismissed the effects of a stroke he sustained are questioning his mental health.
Since the October 7 Hamas massacre of more than 1200 people in Israel, Fetterman has vigorously defended Israel’s right to defend itself.
After Fetterman endured a stroke in May 2022, his GOP opponent in the senatorial election, Dr. Mehmet Oz, joined other Republicans to suggest that Fetterman was unable to serve as a senator. But Democrats defended Fetterman: “Listen, Fetterman doesn’t need to debate him right now,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), as POLITICO reported. “Because he’s ahead. It’s still early. I think, ultimately, he will [debate]. And why should he help Oz’s campaign? Why does he need to do it now?”
