Last week, China jumped into the Ukrainian war debate with a 12-point proposal for a peace plan. (Before almost immediately turning around and saying they were in discussions to provide lethal aid to Russia.) It took a couple of days, but yesterday Russia responded to the proposal… sort of. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov took a question from a reporter about the peace proposal during a press conference. He spoke glowingly of “our Chinese friends,” saying that of course, their proposal was worthy of “careful analysis” and “great attention.” But he doused the idea of a rapid end to the hostilities, saying that any path toward ending the war would be “long and stressful.” So in other words, he gave us nothing of substance.
