Twitter Changes Name to X Corp: Court Filing

Based on a a recent court filing, it appears Twitter Inc. has been dissolved into X Corp. We still don’t know X-actly what that means.

Investigative journalist Laura Loomer shared a screenshot on Twitter April 10 of an April 4 court filing. “‘Twitter, Inc has been merged into X Corp. and no longer exists,’” Loomer quoted the filing.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has seemingly not yet commented on the name change, except to tweet the letter “X” the day after the court filing went viral on Twitter.

The apparent court filing said, “Pursuant to Rule 7.1(a)(1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the undersigned counsel for Defendant X Corp., as successor in interest to named Defendant Twitter, Inc., hereby states that Twitter, Inc. has been merged into X Corp. and no longer exists.”

The screenshotted filing added, “X Corp. is a privately held corporation. Its parent corporation is X Holdings Corp. No publicly traded corporation owns 10% or more of the stock of X Corp. or X Holding Corp.”

Another screenshot of the filing, shared by T(w)itter Daily News, said that X Corp. is “incorporated in Nevada and with its principal place of business in San Francisco, California, and is thus a citizen of Nevada and California.”

Musk has previously said he wants Twitter to be the “everything app.” That would include everything from shopping to messaging to networking. Perhaps the name change indicates that Musk is moving forward with the plan for Twitter to become an “everything app.”

Twitter has not responded to a request for comment as of the publication of this piece.
