Coldplay Cancels Shows After Frontman Sidelined With ‘Serious Lung Infection’

Coldplay axed several upcoming shows after announcing that frontman Chris Martin had been diagnosed with a “serious lung infection” and was ordered by his doctor to take at least a few weeks off to recover.

The band’s official Instagram account shared the update on Tuesday, announcing that their upcoming shows in Brazil would be postponed until early 2023. They promised to accommodate fans who still wished to see the rescheduled show, saying that their tickets would be honored on the new dates (TBA) and also promised to provide refunds to fans who preferred that.

“With deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023,” the band’s statement read. “Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks. We’re working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days.”

“To everyone in Brazil who was looking forward to these concerts, we’re extremely sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we’re so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritise Chris’ health,” the statement continued. “Please hold onto your tickets as they will be valid for the new rescheduled dates. These will happen in early 2023 and will be announced very soon. However, we will also honour all requests for ticket refunds – which will be available at the point of sale.”

According to the band’s website, only the shows in Brazil have been postponed — the show scheduled for October 25 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is still on the calendar.
