Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know that Kanye West — who now goes by Ye West — and I were in Paris at his Yeezy fashion show, wearing t-shirts that said “White Lives Matter.” He went on Fox News’s Tucker Carlson Tonight for an extensive interview Thursday night, and I’d like to give my thoughts on that today.
So the morning after we wore the shirts, when I saw Ye, I asked him if he should respond to it. I actually was thinking we should just say nothing about it and just appreciate the art that was the response. Because the response we knew we were going to get was really a commentary on society.
For years we were told that saying “Black Lives Matter” was not divisive, saying “Black Lives Matter” was not a form of black supremacy, and saying “Black Lives Matter” was a righteous thing to say. People were, of course, then okay with people who said, “Asian Lives Matter” because that phrase is not divisive.
In fact, you can just insert any race for that word — except for white.
The same people championing BLM suddenly said that “White Lives Matter” was an expression of white supremacy.
Personally, I was comfortable to just allow people to scream and to shout and while we sit back and appreciate the art in it. But then Ye decided it was time to say something else, because he’s not just an artist, right? He is more than that. He has always been more than just an artist, or a rapper, or a producer, or a fashion designer.
So he went on Tucker Carlson Thursday night and his interview provided a very different version of Ye West than the one his critics portray him as — everybody says he’s completely insane, he’s thoughtless, and on and on.
But here’s what he actually sounds like:
#WATCH | “I’m pro-life […] there’s more black babies being aborted than born in New York City at this point. 50% of black death in America is abortion. So I really don’t care about people’s responses, I perform for an audience of one, and that’s God”: Kanye West. pic.twitter.com/ds4Kwyoc8G

He also explained, “People, they’re looking for an explanation and people say, ‘Well, as an artist, you don’t have to give an explanation,’ but as a leader, you do.
“So the answer to why I wrote ‘White Lives Matter’ on a shirt is because they do,” he added. “It’s the obvious thing.”
Amazing. He was incredibly measured and profound.
And it’s profound in its simplicity, right? They do.
It is true. White lives matter. Black lives matter. Asian lives matter. All lives matter.
Unfortunately, we live in a society that is unwilling to admit that it is a form of racism. When you’re only angry, when you say “White Lives Matter,” right? It is such a strange time to live in that people think that they are legitimate in treating white people as if they’re not allowed to speak in society anymore.
And how incredible is he in wearing this lanyard and speaking to this understanding that what we do matters only to God?
Right, and what is happening in black America is a form of genocide. What is happening in terms of the abortion industry and its deep history related to eugenics and Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood. What is happening in the black community and America is unacceptable.
It is such a cultural moment that West had the courage to go on Tucker Carlson and to hold the line and not to completely collapse, because people on the Left are basically demanding that he be silenced. They no longer want him. People in fashion, the big models, anybody with power in that industry are basically saying he needs to go. He’s just a bully.
The media are completely silent about the fact that others are describing him as mentally ill.
Imagine describing a black man who has the courage to speak out on the death industry of abortion, and saying, “Oh that’s just somebody who is mentally ill and disturbed.”
Right. That’s not a form of racism? But they’ve remained silent on the topics of abortion, broken families, crime, drugs and all the other things we talked about earlier this week.
The critics only want to speak out now because he wore a t-shirt that says “White Lives Matter.”
Really?
Just think about what that says about the state of things in America.
