After Police Are Alerted About Graphic LGBT Book, MA Governor Rails Against ‘Book Banning’

A police officer was called to a Massachusetts middle school earlier this month following an anonymous complaint that a controversial and sexually graphic LGBT book was being read inside an 8th grade classroom.

The book, called “Gender Queer,” includes illustrations of sex between two males with a sex toy, oral sex, masturbation, and other sexually explicit content.

An officer from the Great Barrington Police Department went to the school, W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School, to follow up on the complaint on December 8, but reportedly did not find the book in the female English teacher’s classroom.

Police then notified the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, though the investigation was eventually dropped because the office determined the matter was to be “managed within the Berkshire Hills Regional School District,” the New York Post reported.
