Kate Winslet On Post-‘Titanic’ Life: ‘Being Famous Was Horrible’

Kate Winslet said she wasn’t happy with the fame that accompanied starring in the 1997 blockbuster “Titanic” opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 48-year-old actress made the remarks during a recent interview with Porter. “I felt like I had to look a certain way, or be a certain thing, and because media intrusion was so significant at that time, my life was quite unpleasant,” Winslet told the outlet.

“Journalists would always say, ‘After Titanic, you could have done anything and yet you chose to do these small things’ … and I was like, ‘Yeah, you bet your life I did! Because, guess what, being famous was horrible.’”

Despite the negatives, the British Academy Award winner looks back fondly on the film that turned her into an international superstar.
