On Wednesday, President Joe Biden issued a memorandum “directing the deferral of removal of certain Palestinians who are present in the United States” for 18 months.
Biden’s order would give Palestinians “a temporary safe haven,” White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said, according to The New York Post. He noted that the order will encompass “most Palestinians in the United States,” adding, “Those convicted of felonies or who are otherwise deemed to pose a public safety threat are not eligible for deferred enforced departure. Anyone who voluntarily returns to the Palestinian territories would lose any such protections.”
