California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom said during an interview over the weekend that former President Donald Trump was a “big” reason why Democrats have been successful in recent election cycles.
Newsom made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with Kristen Welker when asked whether Democrats were underestimating Trump’s strength as a candidate hearing into the 2024 presidential election.
“I think he’s weakness masquerading as strength,” Newsom said. “I think he’s more unhinged. He’s less interesting than he was even a few years ago. I mean, you’ve heard his comments just this week. More just overt racist comments that he’s made.
