Chris Cuomo Opens Up About His Mental Health Issues In Attempt To Reach Out To Kanye West

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo opened up about his own personal mental health issues during a 20-minute interview with embattled rap and fashion mogul Ye West Monday night amid increasing questions about West’s own state.

Cuomo’s remarks came toward the end of the interview after West had made several anti-Semitic remarks throughout the interview, each of which was met with pushback from Cuomo.

“Here’s my concern for you, when I hear how you talk about your personal life, and you put things out there and you get into these looping thoughts of what you believe, it sounds to me like you are sometimes out of control,” Cuomo said. “And that this is something that you should be dealing with. Now I’m not excusing your thoughts as illness, okay? People attacked me for that and said, ‘Hey, just because you’re concerned about whether Kanye West is taking care of himself emotionally and mentally — ”

“My name is Ye, sir,” West said.

“Have you been taking care of your health?” Cuomo asked. “And in terms of making sure that you are behaving and thinking at your best?”

“I love what you, the way you worded it, but you don’t realize is when it runs back, people are gonna say, ‘Wow, have you been making sure you’re behaving? If you run that back,” West replied. “If you run that back, you’re gonna be like, ‘whoa.’”

“I’m trying to make sure that you’re healthy and you’re taking care of your health,” Cuomo said.

“Did you work out this morning?” West asked.

“No,” Cuomo said. “But I took my medicine. I took my anti-depressant medication that I take every day.”

After West accused the former CNN prime time host of cutting him off, Cuomo gave his guest the floor.

“It’s all you,” Cuomo said. “Go.”

“I don’t have to say how much money is in my account,” West began. “I don’t have to say who I voted on. I don’t have to say why I changed my name.”

“The life for a black person in America is like a constant test, even after we’re out of high school,” he continued. “After we’re out of college, we’re always being questioned. Why would you do that? Why would you do that? Do you think that I just had the rightness of rhetorical question? Because I don’t want you to answer it. Do you think I had the right to just vote for Trump? I didn’t even vote for Trump because of the people that were around me.”
