There’s a very famous story about Joe Biden when he was a senator in the 1980’s.
In June 1982, Biden was on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and he got into a clash with Menachem Begin, the prime minister of Israel.
Biden lectured Begin over Israeli settlements and threatened cutting off military aid for Israel’s offensive campaign in Lebanon, where Israel was fighting against arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat and his Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Begin, whose father, mother, and brother were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust, had moved to Israel, where he became an underground fighter against the British in an attempt to establish the State of Israel. He turned to Biden and said:
Don’t threaten us with cutting off aid to give up our principles. I’m not a Jew with trembling knees. I am a proud Jew with 3,700 years of civilized history. Nobody came to our aid…
