This wasn’t the usual clash of police and protesters. The University of San Francisco reached an agreement with students who promised to remove their tents from campus yesterday. But when school staff showed up to remove them some of the protesters were outraged, calling the clean-up a “raid.”
Susu Steyteyieh, a student organizer for the encampment, told the Chronicle that while students had planned to dismantle their tents on Monday morning, they were preempted by university staff members, who told the students they planned to store the encampment’s items — including their tents on university property.
Steyteyieh said the encampment had not told university spokespersons they planned to dismantle the tents on Monday morning, as summer break had just begun and many of the campers were planning to go back home.
