With increasing signs that the Democrats are headed for a big loss in the midterms, their allies in the liberal media have begun panicking.
In the last month they’ve settled on a last ditch messaging effort to frighten their viewers into voting Democrat, telling them that if the GOP wins, the Republican Party will begin dismantling democracy as they know it.
A terrified Jonathan Capehart, in an MSNBC interview, actually told President Joe Biden “I’m scared….millions of Americans are scared” of the GOP’s “attacks on democracy.”
NBC News historian Michael Beschloss warned “we could lose our democracy” on Election Day if the GOP wins big. MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace asked a Democratic congressman if foreign nations should send in election observers to ward off any Republican chicanery: “Do you think it’s time to ask for friends and allies to come over and help us monitor our elections?”
PBS’s Christiane Amanpour warned GOP efforts on election reform would put “America into the fast lane towards illiberal democracy.”
Oh and along the way to ending democracy the GOP will “sabotage” the economy, according to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.
NewsBusters Media Editor Bill D’Agostino put together this montage of liberal journos’ attempts to freak out their viewers before the midterms.
The following are just a few of the most outrageous examples of the liberal media’s final scare tactic to provoke their viewers into voting for leftist candidates, lest the GOP put a nail in the coffin into democracy:
Mr. President “I’m Scared” of GOP’s “Election Deniers” Attacking “Democracy” and “Women”
“Mr. President, I’ll be honest. I’m scared. Millions of Americans are scared. They’re concerned about the concerted attacks on democracy, on voting, and how that’s going to impact the midterm elections. We’re seeing everything from Governor DeSantis’ election police force arresting people for alleged violations of voter fraud, we’re seeing election workers quitting because of threats. And then, on top of it, you’ve got election deniers up and down the ballot, running for election. A good chunk of them could win. So why shouldn’t we be scared?…Can our democracy survive when the Republican Party….it only cares about power?…
— MSNBC’s The Sunday Show host Jonathan Capehart to President Joe Biden as aired on MSNBC’s The ReidOut, October 21.
Should We Bring in Foreign Nations to Monitor Our Elections?
“The threats to our elections in – what, two and a half weeks – are so pervasive and they’re dire and they include violence. I mean, do you think it’s time to ask for friends and allies to come over and help us monitor our elections? We used to do that in other burgeoning and threatened democracies.”
— Host Nicolle Wallace to Democratic congressman Jim Himes on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, October 24.
“Our Democracy” Could Be Lost If GOP Wins
“If you’ve got something better to do during the next 17 days, fine, but you’ll have to live for the rest of your life with the possibility that we could lose our democracy in 17 days. Thank God we’ve got a President who understands that.”
— NBC News presidential historian/PBS contributor Michael Beschloss on MSNBC’s The ReidOut, October 21.
Republicans Putting “Party Over Country”
“He [Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin] was specifically asked by my colleague Garrett Haake about your critique of Republicans that were campaigning with [Arizona gubernatorial candidate] Kari Lake….A lot of Republicans in the last three weeks that I would describe as empathetic to what you’ve been doing, have suddenly found themselves deciding, hey party over country. What do you make of those decisions?”
— Moderator Chuck Todd to Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney on NBC’s Meet the Press, October 23.
GOP Will “Sabotage” Economy If They Win Midterms
“The Republicans have an explicit incentive to make the economy worse….I feel confident in predicting that if Republicans win control of one or both houses of Congress, they will do everything in their power to sabotage the economy to best set them up to retake the White House in 2024.”
— Host Chris Hayes on MSNBC’s All In, October 12.
GOP Putting America “Into the Fast Lane” Toward “Illiberal Democracy”
“If this court case does win for North Carolina, the Republicans will be able to maintain power regardless of the popular vote. I mean, anybody maintaining power regardless of the popular vote should be of concern, I guess. And I’m wondering whether this puts America into the fast lane towards illiberal democracy. We’re seeing the same kinds of things in places like Hungary and to extend in Poland and elsewhere.”
— Host Christiane Amanpour to former attorney general Eric Holder as aired on PBS’s Amanpour and Company, October 11.
Republican Challenges to Elections Sounds “Very Familiar” to Nazis
Host Joy Reid: “We talk about this all the time, democracy on the ballot, it’s not just a slogan…. Donald Trump has said you know where he’s going to challenge the election, already in advance, he says he’s going to do it? Philly. That’s a dog whistle, right?….It’s just fascism in the open.”
Former ABC News political analyst Matthew Dowd: “I’m not going to say that, you know, the GOP are Nazis at this point or whatever, but it certainly sounds very familiar to what happened in Germany, which is a bunch of citizens, Adolf Hitler gets a third of the vote, nobody thought it would happen there, they went along because he said he would solve the economy and fix inflation.”
— MSNBC’s The ReidOut, October 24.
We Need Obama to Man a “Democracy Hotline” to Save America from GOP
“We are watching Republicans not just destroying democracy in the dark, breaking into election offices, and plugging stuff in. We’re watching them do it from rally stages, debate stages. That’s where they’re doing it….Do you think it requires a democracy commission? Should President Obama ask Chris Christie and Ben Ginsberg to sort of man a democracy hotline the way people used to man other crises?”
— Host Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, October 10.
DeSantis Cracking Down on Voter Fraud = Cheating
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg: “Where is Ron DeSantis? What are you doing, man? Why are you allowing this? This is your problem! You set these people up to be part of this voter fraud thing that you keep looking for. And you set these people up. What are you doing?”….
Co-host Joy Behar: “This is what they’re up to now, the Republican Party. Because they know they can’t win and they can’t win because demographics are changing and the future is not Republican Party, so they have to cheat.”
— ABC’s The View, October 19.
“Sad and Depressing” That “People” Don’t “Understand” GOP is “Not Going to Help” Them
“If you can’t put food on the table it’s very depressing and if you put gas in your car and inflation and rents, everything is piling up because [of] various reasons….One of them is the pandemic. Another one is maybe the war in….Ukraine. But to think the other party is going to be able to solve those problems is really ludicrous, because the Republican Party is happy to let corporations never pay another tax for the rest of their days. They will cut Social Security. They’re going to cut lunches for children. They’re not going to help you! So, why would you vote for them? And yet I see it’s very close, that people are not understanding what the stakes are. And I find it sad and depressing.”
— Co-host Joy Behar on ABC’s The View, October 18.
Americans Think “Democracy Is in Peril” Due to Republicans
“How do you feel about the fact that there are 300 Republican candidates on the ballot in just a few weeks who question the legitimacy of the last election, and some who outright believe it should be overturned?…You saw the New York Times poll, 71 percent of Americans believe that democracy is in peril. How do you run for office and do so to a public that is losing its faith in the legitimacy or at least the efficacy of their vote?”
— Host Stephen Colbert to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on CBS’s The Late Show, October 24.
