That’s what we’re being told this week. The proposed deal would bring about not only a ceasefire but also an agreement on an interim government to run Gaza once the war is over. Unfortunately, this information isn’t coming from the Israelis, nor is it coming from Hamas’ leadership. It was provided to the Washington Post by an anonymous “U.S. official” who would only speak on background, so take that for what it’s worth. The idea seemed to be batted down by other administration officials who said that while a “framework” for a deal exists, the implementation of it “is not imminent.” Looking at the details, this just sounds like the same deal that Joe Biden pitched before and neither side agreed to, though there is one significant addition to it which we’ll address in a moment.
