Martha Stewart Calls Out Mariah Carey For Promoting Christmas Music: ‘You Cannot Give Up Thanksgiving!’

There’s an ongoing debate about whether Christmas celebrations should begin in early November or after the Thanksgiving holiday, and now Martha Stewart and Mariah Carey are entering the fray.

Stewart made her opinion known during a recent appearance on the “TODAY” show. She called out Carey as someone who starts talking about Christmas the day after Halloween.

“Mariah, you know me, I’m a traditionalist with a twist. And you cannot give up Thanksgiving just because you don’t like turkey,” the 81-year-old television personality shared. “I love turkey, and many, many other people love turkey. So do not think we are going to give up Thanksgiving just because you say so.”

A follow-up post on the “TODAY” show Twitter page mentioned Carey again.

“‘You cannot give up Thanksgiving!’ @MarthaStewart makes a plea to @MariahCarey to slow her roll after the singer posted a video on social media celebrating the end of Halloween and skipping straight to Christmas,” the tweet said. “Mariah, what do you say?”

Carey responded by saying she still had respect for Thanksgiving even though she’s ready for Christmas early.

“Dearest Martha!! NEVER will I give up Thanksgiving!!” Carey wrote in her reply. “But we can still start getting into the festive spirit now!”

She continued, “P.S I’d love to have you at my Thanksgiving dinner although I’ve yet to be invited to your Thanksgiving extravaganza! And THAT is MAJOR! Esp if Snoop’s coming!”

Stewart’s original comments were no doubt a response to Carey sharing an Instagram post showing the singer switching out her Halloween costume for Christmas decor in an attempt to hype fans for her famous song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

The song has remained popular every holiday season since its release in 1994. It has sold an estimated 16 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling Christmas single by a female artist.

Most commenters on Twitter were on Team Christmas, pointing out that most of the world doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving.

“Girl, Mariah is a global spokesperson for the Christmas season at this point. Not every country celebrates Thanksgiving or even know what that is,” one person shared.

“Simmer down Martha, Mariah loves all of the holidays and makes Thanksgiving festive as well,” another agreed.

“Mariah is the Queen of Christmas, whenever she says it’s time… it’s TIME,” a third Twitter user asserted
