Things didn’t go according to plan for Republicans on Tuesday in Wisconsin. In an all-important Supreme Court race, liberal Susan Crawford prevailed, beating Brad Schimel by a sizable margin despite everyone from President Donald Trump to Elon Musk getting involved.

The stakes were high, given the far-reaching political implications. Crawford’s win gives the Democrats a 4-3 majority, and it is expected that they’ll force congressional redistricting that will cost Republicans two House seats before the 2026 election even takes place.
