Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” mocked Vice President Kamala Harris’ political skills during his show late last week as he discussed what might happen to Democrats if President Joe Biden (D), who turns 80 next week, were to die in office.
“I’ll give you another reason why, a good reason why, Biden shouldn’t run: the Kamala problem,” Maher said. “Now, I like Kamala Harris, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t work out, okay? I think she would make a great president of the University of Santa Barbara here in California. But if Joe doesn’t run, then we don’t have to worry about her running, because it’s hard to get rid of your running mate that you ran with last time. But if you don’t run, then that kind of goes out with you.”
After a brief exchange with a guest on his panel, Maher said, “Let me put it another way. Couldn’t Biden wind up doing a kind of Ruth Bader Ginsburg thing where he stays on a little too long and takes down the whole thing with him?”
“That’s what I worry about,” he added.
When Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) claimed that Biden was in “good health,” Maher responded, “Oh come on. He keeps saying his son was killed in Iraq and he wasn’t.”

TRANSCRIPT:
BILL MAHER, HBO HOST: And if it’s Trump against Biden, the electorate will be so turned off. And also, I’ll give you another reason why, a good reason why, Biden shouldn’t run: the Kamala problem. Now, I like Kamala Harris, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t work out, okay? I think she would make a great president of the University of Santa Barbara here in California. But if Joe doesn’t run, then we don’t have to worry about her running, because it’s hard to get rid of your running mate that you ran with last time. But if you don’t run, then that kind of goes out with you.
ROBERTA COSTA, REPORTER: I sat down with her ahead of the election and she said this whole election is going to be about democracy and abortion rights. And people looked at those comments and said, ‘what she talking about it?’ She called it.
MAHER: Lots of people said that.
COSTA: A lot of people said the economy was going to be everything.
MAHER: Well, yes. Like I said, people thought differently when they got in the booth. Okay. So great, but okay. Let me, let me put it another way. Couldn’t Biden wind up doing a kind of Ruth Bader Ginsburg thing where he stays on a little too long and takes down the whole thing with him. That’s what I worry about.
REP. RO KHANNA (D-CA): He’s in good health.
MAHER: He’s in good health now.
KHANNA: And he’s, you know, he’s someone. Let me, let me say this, people say he’s—
MAHER: He’s a little befuddled sometimes.
KHANNA: No!
MAHER: Oh come on. He keeps saying his son was killed in Iraq and he wasn’t.
