Businesses Offer Treats, Incentives On Election Day

Stores are offering incentives on Election Day, encouraging Americans to patronize their business during the 2022 midterm elections.

People can get a free doughnut, find ways to pay less for a ride, and possibly get a pizza treat.

Lyft is providing rides at a discounted rate with the code “VOTE22.” Customers who enter the code can get 50% off their trips or up to $10 off when they take a ride using the rideshare, scooter, or bikeshare service from the app on Tuesday. The coupon is only valid while polls are still open.

“We believe that everyone’s voice – and vote – deserves to be heard, and transportation should never be a barrier. That’s why this Election Day, Lyft is helping more people roll to the polls with access to discounted rideshare, bikeshare, and scooter rides,” the company said in a statement.

The company also pointed out the importance of people getting a ride to vote, noting that in 2016, 15 million registered voters did not cast a ballot because of problems getting to the polls.

Americans can also get a free doughnut on Election Day from Krispy Kreme, which is providing a free “Original Glazed® doughnut” to anyone who comes to the store on Tuesday.

“A healthy, vibrant democracy depends on engaged citizens who vote. We’re happy to celebrate voters and our democracy by giving everyone a free Original Glazed doughnut on Election Day,” Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a news release. “So cast your vote and stop by; you deserve our sweet thanks.”

Pizza to the Polls is an organization that brings pizza to voting locations. The group started in 2016 and announced plans to send food trucks to polling venues in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“With so many individuals becoming more politically involved and looking forward to voting this year, it is critical that they are supported with a functioning civic engagement ecosystem,” Amirah Noaman, executive director of Pizza to the Polls, said. “Feeding people and providing water keeps people in line to vote and keeps elections running smoothly, in addition to helping to bring more joy and celebration to this Election Day.”

Wawa is also offering free coffee to Wawa rewards members through its app starting Election Day and continuing on Tuesdays through December 27.
