It’s been a mere week since Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) staged a filibuster-like stunt with a speech that had the media swooning and salivating, especially once it was confirmed that Booker officially broke the record for the longest speech ever given in the Senate.
For instance, the AP gushed that he “was holding the Senate floor with a marathon speech that lasted all night and well into Tuesday morning in a feat of endurance to show Democrats’ objections” to President Trump and his DOGE agenda.
As GOP strategist Scott Jennings pointed out, however, it was unclear what the “point” of Booker’s speech was since he wasn’t stopping any proposed legislation nor any Trump nominees.
“So maybe this was an attempt by him to try to wrest control of at least the spiritual leadership of the national party. I don’t know if it will work,” Jennings observed.
