One of the more amusing results of the current culture war–and I wish there were more amusing aspects of it, but unfortunately, we are fighting for the soul of our country–is that groups that were once hostile to one another have become allies.
Not too long ago, you would have been surprised to learn that conservatives and gays, especially lesbians, have become political allies united in the fight against gender ideology.
There have always been more gays than you would imagine on the Red team–gay men in particular–but the hostility was real nonetheless. I have known a lot of gay Republicans who worked in politics over the years, and most Republicans’ opposition to the gay agenda was focused on cultural changes, the sybaritic lifestyle celebrated by leftist gays, and especially gay marriage.
