California State Representative Carl DeMaio (R) gave a speech in support of Democrat assemblymembers honoring civil rights and labor activist Cesar Chavez and had a colleague lunge at him for his efforts.
DeMaio posted a video of his comments in response to a resolution commemorating Cesar Chavez Day in the name of “immigrant rights.”
Chaos ensued, however, when the Republican lawmaker pointed out that Chavez was an advocate for secure borders and supported the deportation of illegal aliens.
“He was a strong voice for the Latino community and Latino workers in our country,” he said, “while also holding concerns and opposing illegal immigration.”
