His main strength came from being able to pull his army through difficult times that would have stopped other armies cold. He outlasted his opponent until they succumbed to the problems he overcame through sheer grit and determination. Your opponent can be larger, better funded, well-connected, and technologically superior, but if you can last five minutes longer than they can, then all their advantages don’t matter.
