District Attorney Allegedly Stabbed By Daughter

Tulsa County, Oklahoma, District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler was hospitalized Tuesday after he was allegedly stabbed by his daughter.

Kunzweiler said he got into an altercation with his 30-year-old daughter Jennifer at his home in south Tulsa before calling police around 3 p.m. and telling them he was stabbed multiple times, ABC 8 Tulsa reported. The district attorney was then taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and went home Tuesday evening.

“Unfortunately today, I found myself in a situation that I hoped would never happen. Fortunately, my injuries are such that I was able to go home,” Kunzweiler’s office said in a statement.

The suspect, Kunzweiler’s daughter Jennifer, was arrested by police who said she was possibly dealing with a mental health issue at the time of the altercation with her father. She was also taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“What happened was his daughter and he got into an altercation of sorts where she had stabbed him,” Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg said, according to NBC News. “The injury stemmed from a potential mental health crisis on the daughter’s side, and then that led to the assault on her father.”

After arriving on scene, Meulenberg said firefighters had to wrestle Jennifer Kunzweiler “to get her under control.”

At a press conference Wednesday, Kunzweiler said he was sore, but “doing fine.” He then thanked the community for their support and praised first responders for their professionalism. The married father of three asked for prayer as his family deals with the situation and thanked those who have shown concern.

“Thank you to everyone who expressed concern for me and my family. I am most appreciative of the response from the Tulsa Fire Department, EMSA, the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. I am also very grateful for the professionalism and care of the staff and doctors at Saint Francis Hospital in treating me for my injuries,” his office said.
