In a twisted case of déjà vu, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Friday that a Butler, Pennsylvania man has been taken into custody for, amongst other things, threatening to assassinate President Trump and assault other administration officials. Thirty-two-year-old Shawn Monper now faces federal charges of making “threats to assault and murder President Donald J. Trump, other U.S. officials, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.”
Butler was, of course, the site of the July 13, 2024, Trump campaign rally where another would-be assassin shot the president in the ear amidst a series of security failures that led to Kimberly Cheadle’s resignation as director of the United States Secret Service.
