Feminist director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said “it’s about time” a woman shaped a “Star Wars” movie after being picked to head the next one from Disney.
The Pakistan-born filmmaker will head an upcoming untitled film set for a 2026 release that will follow the story of Rey Skywalker, a female Jedi Master, CNN reported. She is the first woman and the first person of color to direct a Star Wars movie.
“I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special,” Obaid-Chinoy told the outlet.
