A new national poll that surveyed approximately 1,300 Hispanic voters revealed about half of those surveyed believe the United States is on the wrong track, citing key issues impacting their views on the current political climate — particularly with regard to crime, healthcare, and inflation.
WPA Intelligence, a conservative polling firm that collaborated with Visto Media on behalf of the Latino advocacy group Bienvenido, conducted a poll of 1,288 Hispanic voters with a 3% margin of error earlier this month. The firm built out the sample before the 2022 midterm elections to gauge which side the demographic would likely swing at the polling station less than two weeks away.
According to the poll, about 56% of Hispanic voters said they are frustrated with the current state of the country and that the nation has gone off on the wrong track.
“Looking at this pitch, I think it certainly shows that Hispanics are recognizing that there are problems with what is going on right now in the direction of the country,” Conor Maguire, the firm’s principal and managing director, told reporters during a presentation on Monday.
WPA officials said the poll used a verified voter Pew Research study of the 2020 Hispanic Vote where 38% supported former President Trump and 59% marked their ballots for Biden. Half of Trump’s Hispanic voters supported him in 2016, while the other half were from voters who either gave his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton their vote — or did not cast a ballot.
According to the poll, Republicans have cut the Democrats’ Hispanic margins by nearly half in the last four years.
Pollsters said that while Hispanics may have conservative cultural leanings like moral values, faith, and religion, such topics did not rank high in their priorities. However, an overwhelming majority of Hispanics want to limit abortions to 15 weeks or less and believe it’s inappropriate for educational institutes to teach radical gender ideology to children or allow them to attend drag queen shows.
In the last five years, 22% of the surveyed voters said they have become more conservative, with only 19% saying they have become more liberal.
Approval numbers for President Biden from Hispanic voters show that 56% of Hispanics believe he should not run for re-election. Many of their frustrations with the country’s current condition under the Biden administration revealed that 60% believe that crime has worsened, and 74% rate the nation’s economic condition as fair or poor.
“They’re just very frustrated with the economy … the impact that they see illegal immigration has in their communities, and they’re very frustrated with the crime levels in their communities,” Giancarlo Sopo, media strategist for the firm, told reporters. “And I think there’s just there’s a disconnect there that I think has to be addressed.”
With many left-wing politicians and media outlets pushing the idea racism and discrimination cause people to fail, most of the Hispanic voters surveyed said they reject the idea of victimhood and embrace the American dream, showing 71% believe their problems and failures in life directly related to their actions, decisions, and circumstances. Numbers from the poll also showed that 74% of Hispanics still believe in the American dream.
The poll revealed that many Hispanic Democrats still believe left-wing disinformation from Spanish-speaking media sources, such as the false narrative police officers kill 150 or more unarmed Black men every year, the Supreme Court outlawed abortion in the nation, or former President Trump called all immigrants “animals,” rather than just referring to MS-13 gang members.
“I think a lot of the time, Democrats are too eager to brand anything and everything that they don’t like as misinformation,” Sopo said. “I’m not denying that there is misinformation in Hispanic communities — but as we saw in this poll — it is clearly not limited to right-wing sources … right-leaning audiences. There is misinformation, and I think Hispanic voters are incredibly smart and nuanced, sophisticated enough to decipher fact from fiction.”
Last summer, Latino Media Network announced that the company signed “one of the largest single acquisitions of stations by a Latino-owned and operated company in history” in a $60 million all-cash deal with TelevisaUnivision. The still-pending acquisition would take over 18 radio stations in ten of the nation’s largest media markets to reach approximately one-third of the U.S. Latino population.
The network reportedly secured equity investments from investors and debt financing for the acquisition from Lakestar Finance, which affiliates itself with left-wing billionaire George Soros’s private American investment management firm, Soros Fund Management. Soros has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in left-wing politicians and at least 75 progressive prosecutors across the U.S. to transform the criminal justice system with radical policies and anti-police narratives.
“It was a defensive move to protect their current standing with Hispanics,” Sopo told The Daily Wire.
