The House Ethics Committee is reportedly expanding its investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as it has reached out to multiple new witnesses.
ABC News reported that the Republican-led Committee has reached out to “individuals who have ties to the initial Justice Department investigation into Gaetz.”
The Committee was focusing on possible lobbying violations by Gaetz, the report said, but after its contact with individuals tied to the DOJ’s criminal investigation, the Committee appears to be looking into the “sex trafficking investigation into the Florida congressman,” the report said.
Gaetz responded to ABC News’ report in a statement: “It’s great to see the Ethics Committee has interests beyond trading stocks. They seem to be quite the unusual whales.”
