A man who was arrested in Virginia last week for alleged sexual crimes against a child is an illegal alien, authorities say.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32-year-old Renzo Mendoza Montes on multiple felony charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.
Law enforcement officials said that Montes is a Venezuelan national who illegally entered the country in September of last year, according to ABC 13 News.
He was released into the U.S. because of President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.
Montes was being held without bond but is now reportedly in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin responded to the story late on Monday night by calling for justice in the case.
