During the holiday recess, it was starting to sound as if Joe Biden was getting ready to cut a deal with the House GOP in which he would make “meaningful changes” to border security protocols. It’s not that he wants to do it, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that the House is not going to approve the next shipment of weapons and pallets of cash to Zelensky unless he gives something significant in return. This has upset some of the Senate Democrats, particularly Latino members. Some of them are now participating in what’s being described as “open opposition” to the idea unless it includes provisions to provide for more (not less) immigration and citizenship opportunities.
