Maren Morris Claims ‘Scumbag Human’ Dig At Brittany Aldean ‘Came From A Good Place’

Country singer Maren Morris defended her attacks on Jason Aldean’s wife, claiming that when she called Brittany Aldean a “scumbag human,” her heart was in a “good place.”

Morris referenced the online feud — which began with a post from Aldean that Morris viewed as “transphobic” — during a GLAAD interview on Thursday, and defended her remarks. She argued that sometimes highly-charged emotions came along with being a champion for certain causes.

“I don’t think that you can do this all the time with sunshine and rainbows,” Morris said, appearing to suggest that she had been trying to educate Aldean rather than insult her. “I think you need to have the tough conversations so people can understand what’s going on.”

“You can save someone’s life by having the right information,” she added.

Morris went on to explain that her goal had been to “correct” Aldean because what she said was “completely untrue about trans youth and gender-affirming care and what it actually entails.”

“It’s not like we’re talking about what your favorite color is. We’re talking about people’s lives,” she continued. “It’s really sensitive.”

The conflict began when Aldean shared a makeup video via Instagram, adding the caption, “I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life.”

Cassadee Pope drew attention to the video in a tweet: “You’d think celebs with beauty brands would see positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their ‘tomboy phase’ to someone wanting to transition. Real nice.”

Morris responded in a tweet of her own, saying, “It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie.”

“Some parents want to be accepted by society so badly that they’re willing to make life-altering decisions for their children who aren’t old enough to fully comprehend the consequences of their actions,” Brittany responded, directing her comment at “Karen” Morris.

Jason Aldean was reportedly dropped by his PR firm, Nashville-based The GreenRoom, after his wife’s comments and the ensuing backlash. They had represented him for 17 years.
