The man who reportedly went to Iraq after Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz decided to retire early says the Democratic vice presidential candidate said “screw you” to the United States.
Thomas Behrends told the New York Post following Walz’s selection as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate that the current Minnesota governor is “a traitor.” According to the outlet, Behrends went to Iraq in Walz’s place after Walz left the military.
“When your country calls, you are supposed to run into battle — not the other way,” said Behrends, a retired command sergeant major. “He ran away. It’s sad.”
“He had the opportunity to serve his country, and said ‘Screw you’ to the United States. That’s not who I would pick to run for vice president,” he added.
