NHL History Has Been Made, and Alex Ovechkin Did So in a Way to Prevent Revisionist Analysis – RedState

This weekend in the National Hockey League, we saw a true generational accomplishment. Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals set the new standard for goal scoring by passing Wayne Gretzky for most goals in a career. On a level of Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s home run mark, Emmitt Smith passing Walter Payton in NFL yardage, or LeBron James earning the most points scored in the NBA, this is a true career-spanning accomplishment.





On Friday, Ovechkin netted a pair of goals to tie The Great One, who was in the Capital One arena to witness the passing of the torch. As RedState’s Chase Jennings mentioned after that game, this is an accomplishment deserving of more media attention. Then on Sunday Ovechkin scored the lone goal in a Capital’s loss to the Islanders to become the Gr8est scorer of all time.
