It was a mess in the little Balkan country of Romania last year as the populist movement that was sweeping through Europe brought broad brushstrokes to their elections as well.
A fellow named Georgescu, who was described as ‘far right-wing’ or ‘ultra-nationalist’ (depending on who needed to be scared out of voting for him the most), came charging up from behind and wound up ahead in the first round of voting.
