It’s that time of year again when we turn our eyes to Pennsylvania and the actions of Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog. On Feb. 2, if Phil sees his shadow, tradition says that’s six more weeks of winter-like weather. If he doesn’t, that bodes well for better weather.
It’s a long-standing tradition, although it has had its problematic moments, such as when Democratic Mayor Bill DeBlasio tried to copy the process with “Staten Island Chuck” but dropped the animal, who later died.
