Roundup: Here’s What’s Happening In Key Governor Matchups

Results for gubernatorial races across the nation rolled in Tuesday night — dashing some long-shot hopes for Republicans in states like New York and Michigan. Meanwhile, other key gubernatorial races, such as in Arizona, are still too close to call as of Wednesday morning.

Here’s what you need to know.

Arizona

Democrat candidate Katie Hobbs and Republican candidate Kari Lake are still battling it out in Arizona.

Hobbs is leading Lake 52.25% to 47.75%, with about 66% of the vote counted, according to Decision Desk HQ polling from early Wednesday morning.

Notably, some 60 different voting centers experienced ballot printing issues in Maricopa County. A judge ruled against extending voting hours Tuesday despite the problems.

“The widespread issues – in an election administered by Democrat Secretary of State Katie Hobbs – are completely unacceptable, especially as Republicans flock to the polls to vote in person on Election Day,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel shared in a tweet Tuesday. “We have dozens of attorneys and thousands of volunteers working to solve this issue and ensure that Arizona voters have the chance to make their voices heard.”

New Mexico 

Democratic incumbent Michelle Lujan Grisham is edging out Republican challenger Mark Ronchetti in New Mexico’s gubernatorial election 51.8% to 45.7%, with 95% of the vote counted, according to a projection at Decision Desk HQ, which has yet to call the race.

Fox News on Tuesday night, though, called the race for Grisham.

Oregon 

Decision Desk HQ has yet to call this race, too. With 79% of the vote counted, Democratic candidate Tina Kotek has a slight lead over Republican candidate Christine Drazan, 45.99% to 44.47%.

Michigan

Democratic incumbent Gretchen Whitmer held off Republican challenger Tudor Dixon on Tuesday, winning a second term as governor of Michigan, numerous outlets project.

New York

Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) survived her first election as governor of the Empire State on Tuesday night, besting GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY) in a race that continued to tighten against the Democrat’s favor, according to a projection from DecisionDeskHQ.

Georgia 

Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp cruised to his second term Tuesday night, defeating Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams in a rematch of the 2018 gubernatorial election, according to a projection by Decision Desk.

Pennsylvania 

Democratic candidate Josh Shapiro triumphed over Republican challenger Doug Mastriano in the Pennsylvania gubernatorial race, replacing Democratic Governor Tom Wolf.

Minnesota 

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz edged out Republican challenger Dr. Scott Jensen Tuesday night, according to projections.

Wisconsin 

Projections show incumbent Democratic Gov. Tony Evers has defeated Republican candidate Tim Michels.

Nevada 

Republican Joe Lombardo is currently leading Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak 50.5% to 45.8%, with 86% of the vote counted, according to Decision Desk HQ. The race is still too close to call.

Alaska 

Incumbent Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy is leading Democratic challenger Les Gara 51.84% to 23.39%, according to Decision Desk HQ. The race has yet to be called, with about 65% of the vote in.
