Even as Democrats boast about their big spending “achievements,” MSNBC The 11th Hour host Stephanie Ruhle lamented on Monday that voters will not blame Republicans for high spending considering news that the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service nearly $1200 a night.
Ruhle desperately tried to portray Republicans as hypocrites on the issue and addressing former Sen. Claire McCaskill, decried that voters do not seem to care about this alleged hypocrisy, “when you talk to the American people, they’ve been condition to believe it’s Democrats, they’re the ones who overspend, they are the ones who don’t know how to handle money.”
Ruhle then teed up a montage of various Republicans condemning Democrats for being high spenders. It is ironic that Ruhle is always demanding to know what Republicans will do to address inflation and when she answers her own question, she is still unsatisfied. After the montage, she sought McCaskill’s help, “So, let’s get this straight, Claire. Republicans have a huge problem with what they say are Democrats overspending, but they’re a-okay with a president ripping us off.”
Perhaps that is because Democrats are currently in power and the Trump-Secret Service story is not anywhere as expensive as the Democrats’ COVID bill or the improperly named Inflation Reduction Act.
For her part, McCaskill tried to suggest that Republicans are even worse than Ruhle alledges. With Ruhle nodding her head up and down in an exaggerated manner, McCaskill claimed, “Well, worse than that, Stephanie, under Donald Trump, we had record debt and deficits. I sat on the floor of the Senate, and watched Republicans vote, big spending bill after big spending bill.”
The reason for those record deficits was emergency COVID spending to keep the economy afloat because people like Ruhle and McCaskill demanded shutdowns and portrayed anyone who disagreed with them as grandma killers.
After McCaskill singled out Sen. Mike Lee, demanding he denounce Trump, Ruhle retorted, “Please don’t hold your breath Clair, we care too much about you.”
One should also not hold their breath until Ruhle offers even the mildest of criticism towards Democrats’ economic policies.

STEPHANIE RUHLE: But, here’s the thing, Claire, everything that Charles is saying makes sense, but when you talk to the American people, they’ve been condition to believe it’s Democrats, they’re the ones who overspend, they are the ones who don’t know how to handle money, watch this.
ELISE STEFANIK: President Biden and House Democrats reckless spending and failed far-left spending have plunged our economy into a recession.
STEVE SCALISE: Raising spending to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.
ROY BLUNT: More tax and spend will make this problem worse, not better.
MITCH MCCONNELL: Democrats chose to spend so recklessly.
JOHN THUNE: The Democrats want to tax more, want to spend more.
JONI ERNST: They’re pushing this reckless tax and spend bill… Stop spending money.
RUHLE: So, let’s get this straight, Claire. Republicans have a huge problem with what they say are Democrats overspending, but they’re a-okay with a president ripping us off.
CLAIRE MCCASKILL: Well, worse than that, Stephanie, under Donald Trump, we had record debt and deficits. I sat on the floor of the Senate, and watched Republicans vote, big spending bill after big spending bill. You know, I remember Mike Lee, who is in a race for his life out in Utah. I remember in 2010, the Tea Party, remember that? It was all about government spending. Well, Mike Lee, tomorrow would be a good day for you to stand up to government spending. Tomorrow would be a great day for you to say, “I’m not gonna put up with the government being overcharged by anyone.” And I will wait to see if he does that, I’m betting he won’t, because they only care about spending, when they’re the ones not doing it.
RUHLE: Please don’t hold your breath Clair, we care too much about you.
