On Monday, California held a debate for candidates who are running for the Senate seat opening resulting from the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein. California Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed Laphonza Butler to fill out the remainder of the term, but Butler isn’t running in 2024. The people who qualified for the debate were Rep. Adam Schiff (D), Rep. Barbara Lee (D), Rep. Katie Porter (D), and baseball legend Steve Garvey, the only Republican candidate in the group.
