It’s the end of a football era.
This week has proven to be arguably the most dramatic round of coaching fires and retirement announcements in the history of the sport. From legendary figures in football to those beloved by their fans to those who (probably) deserved their ouster, the list of head coaching changes in the 2024 football offseason is a long one.
The Legends Leave Their Posts
The most eye-popping announcements from the week came just hours apart and regarded the two most iconic coaches in their respective leagues. On Wednesday afternoon, reports swirled that Alabama head coach Nick Saban, the seven-time national champion, was retiring. The 72-year-old Saban confirmed the news later, saying that he and his wife Terry had “enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community.”
