Tom Brady Apologizes For Comparing Football To Military Deployment

Buccaneers star QB Tom Brady said he wanted to take a moment at the start of his press event Thursday to apologize for making a comparison of the football season to military deployment.

The Tampa Bay star told reporters that he wanted to apologize for saying earlier in the week that he looks “at like a football season like you’re going away on deployment in the military.”

“Before we start, can I say one thing?” Brady told the press. “Earlier this week, I made a statement about playing football and the military, and it was a very poor choice of words.”

“And I just want to express that — to any sentiments out there that people may have taken it in a certain way, so, I apologize,” he added.

When the seven-time Super Bowl-wining QB was asked to explain what he meant when he made the surprising comparison of football players leaving their family to prepare for weeks of play to those going off to serve their country, he said he didn’t want to get into it any further.

“To be honest I don’t really want to expand on it too much,” Brady shared. “I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for everyone who served.”

“In the end, we play a game, and the military is defending our country,” he added. “It’s two different things, and I shouldn’t have made the comparison.”

Brady originally made the comments on his “Let’s Go” podcast during a discussion about balancing personal life and work, amid reports that he and wife Gisele Bundchen were over after more than a decade of marriage, Fox News noted.

“I almost look at like a football season like you’re going away on deployment in the military,” Brady said. “And it’s like, ‘Man, here I go again. And there’s only one way to do it.’”

“Whatever you may say — ‘Oh man, I want to make sure I spend a little more time doing this during the season’ — The reality is when it comes down to it, your competitiveness takes over, and as much as you want to have this playful balance with the work balance, you’re going to end up doing exactly what you’ve always done,” he added.

“Which is why you are who you are,” the NFL star continued. “You’re going to go, ‘How the f*** do I get it done?’ You know, ‘What do I got to do to get it done?’”

Bündchen and Brady share two kids. She previously made it clear she wanted her husband to be more present, following his announcement that he was coming out of retirement, as The Daily Wire reported.
