Former President Donald Trump’s campaign hammered President Joe Biden over an executive order easing the pathway to U.S. residency for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.
Biden announced a new executive action on Tuesday that eases the residency application process for about 500,000 illegal immigrants who have been in the U.S. 10 years and are married to a U.S. citizen. Another roughly 50,000 noncitizen children who are under 21-years-old and whose parent is married to a U.S. citizen will be covered by the order as well.
The action has been billed as the largest step toward amnesty for illegal immigrants since former president Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012, according to CNN.
