House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-TN) announced this week that he is reversing his decision to retire after receiving calls from former President Donald Trump and others.
Green appeared burned out when he announced earlier this month that he was retiring, saying that he believed the country and Congress were “broken beyond most means of repair.”
“I have come to realize our fight is not here within Washington, our fight is with Washington,” he added at the time. “As I have done my entire life, I will continue serving this country — but in a new capacity.”
Green said on Thursday that while he initially had a “strong desire” to leave Congress, “since my announcement, I have received countless calls from constituents, colleagues, and President Trump urging me to reconsider.”
