Shortly after the July assassination attempt on Donald Trump by Thomas Crooks, many questions were immediately raised, and for good reasons. To be fair, there are still ongoing questions about the Secret Service’s handling of Trump’s security during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania and whether this was all just a matter of incompetence, insufficient staffing, or something potentially darker. But as for Crooks himself, after a week or so I slowly became convinced that Crooks was something of an aberration. He eventually struck me as an isolated, lonely, likely psychotic incel who decided to make a name for himself and go out with a bang. (Literally.)
