The U.S. military announced on Friday that it killed the leader of ISIS in an airstrike this week in Syria.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that U.S. forces carried out a precision airstrike on Thursday targeting ISIS leader Abu Yusif in the Dayr az Zawr Province.
The strike killed Yusif and another ISIS terrorist, CENTCOM said in a statement.
Yusif was located in an area that had been controlled by the Syrian and Russian government just a few of weeks ago.
“As stated before, the United States — working with allies and partners in the region — will not allow ISIS to take advantage of the current situation in Syria and reconstitute.
