U.S. Kills ISIS Leader Abu Yusif In Syria

The U.S. military announced on Friday that it killed the leader of ISIS in an airstrike this week in Syria.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that U.S. forces carried out a precision airstrike on Thursday targeting ISIS leader Abu Yusif in the Dayr az Zawr Province.

The strike killed Yusif and another ISIS terrorist, CENTCOM said in a statement.

Yusif was located in an area that had been controlled by the Syrian and Russian government just a few of weeks ago.

“As stated before, the United States — working with allies and partners in the region — will not allow ISIS to take advantage of the current situation in Syria and reconstitute. ISIS has the intent to break out of detention the over 8,000 ISIS operatives currently being held in facilities in Syria,” said Gen.
