Band members of the music group Village People announced on Monday that they have accepted an invitation from President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign to be part of the Inauguration activities.
In a message on the group’s Facebook page— directed to Village People fans and the media — it said that the group would be participating in several inaugural activities for the president-elect, which will includes performing at one of Trump’s inaugural balls and a rally being held in Washington, D.C. ahead of his swearing in, the Associated Press noted.
“We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear, however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics,” the message read. “Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”
