Here’s something you don’t see every day. Normally the California legislature and the Governor’s office work hand-in-glove like a well-oiled, liberal machine, cranking out one disastrous policy after another in the name of political correctness. But that wasn’t the case in Sacramento this week. Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a new bill dealing (supposedly) with automobile safety measures, despite having previously supported the legislation. The bill in question would have mandated all new cars in the state to monitor a driver’s speed and issue a “beeping” alarm if the vehicle exceeded the posted speed limit by a significant margin. Typically, Newsome loves issuing new mandates on auto manufacturers no matter what the impact on drivers and owners might be. So what’s different now? Could it have something to do with there being an election just around the corner and his poll numbers…
